How to Play Bingo
Bingo Basics!
You’ve heard of Bingo before, but do you remember how to play this popular game? You probably know that you need a bingo card, and that there are numbers involved. And you most likely remember that someone calls numbers out loud, but how do all of these bits and pieces come together? Read on, to refresh your memory about how to play Bingo.
The Bingo Card
Every player gets a bingo card. And every card is littered with random numbers. How are these numbers set up? Well, there are five columns- labeled B, I, N, G, and 0. Printed below those letters are five rows, all filled with numbers. These numbers correspond to the letters up top. For example, the B column can only contain numbers between 1 and 15. The I column gets any numbers between 15 and 30. The N column contains any numbers between 30 and 45, and so on and so forth. What you are left with are five columns of five randomly placed numbers apiece, except for the N column which usually has a free spot right in the middle.
How to Play Bingo
Okay. So you have your bingo card. Now what?
Now, the game begins. The caller starts to call out random numbers. Where do these random numbers come from? In a simple game, the caller might pull numbers out of a bag or a box. In a more complex bingo-hall version of the game, callers use a lottery style ball blower machine. In online bingo, the random number generator picks out the numbers.
When you start hearing these numbers called, it’s up to you to pay attention, and make sure to cover up any corresponding numbers on your card. If the caller says B3, and you have B3, now is the time to mark it off. You can do this with bingo tokens, or you can use a specially manufactured bingo dauber- a pen that highlights the numbers in bright colors, so you don’t have to worry about chips getting knocked around. In online bingo, you just click the card with your mouse.
How to Win at Bingo
Now that you’ve got your game going, how do you know when you’ve won? Well, the most common way to win a game of bingo is to get a straight line of covered numbers. This line can be horizontal, vertical, or even diagonal. And it can include the free space that’s located in the middle of the card. If you manage to get a straight line bingo, it’s time to yell out, “Bingo!” That’s when the game stops and the floor walker or caller comes to check your card. If you fail to complete this step before the caller calls out the next number, then you’ve just lost your chance at winning.
Another way to win the game is to get Blackout- this means that all of the numbers on your card are covered. This is a typical way to win in progressive jackpot games.
